The Bachi is made in imitation of the Ginkgo tree leaf, which is believed to be a most auspicious tree in Japan. The Samsien is a popular classical instrument that is still played in Japan and resembles a three stringed lute. It is used as an accompaniment to traditional songs and is played with a Bachi, which strikes the string just below where the neck of the instrument joins the body.
