A Venetian bronze bust of a cherub in the manner of Niccoló Roccatagliata, (active 1593-1636)

A Venetian bronze bust of a cherub in the manner of Niccoló Roccatagliata, (active 1593-1636)

Circa 1600

Size: 10cm high
This bronze was probably used as a handle for a door of a large
credenza. There is a similar pair of cabinet handles in the Bayeriche
National Museum in Munich although not of such a good quality casting
as this model. The style is characteristic of the Putti figures on candelabra and the
Putti statuettes what were coming from the Venetian renaissance
workshop of the 'Master of the Putto' Roccatagliata around 1600. See Finch & Co Catalogue 2002, Item No 75.
