A small tapering elephant ivory cup, the two handles fixed to the tapering body with metal pins and with an inset turned ivory base. The age graining of the ivory creates an interesting texture on both the interior and exterior of the cup which combined with the mellow patina makes an attractive patterned surface.
Ivory is a precious Buddhist symbol representing sacredness, compassion and completeness and its contemplation offers the scholar poetic inspiration.
