cf: Carlo Francesco Nuvolone (1608 or 1609 – 1661 or 1662, Milan) was an Italian painter known for his religious subjects and portraits. Active primarily in Lombardy, he rose to prominence as one of the region's leading artists in the mid 17th century.
Nuvolone worked in both oil on canvas and fresco, and his style was deeply influenced by the classical elegance and graceful compositions of Guido Reni. Because of this stylistic affinity, he earned the nickname ‘il Guido della Lombardia’ (the Guido of Lombardy).
His work reflects the transition from the early Baroque to a more refined and idealised aesthetic, often characterised by delicate coloration and soft, emotive expressions. Nuvolone's influence extended through both his paintings and his role in shaping the artistic trends of his time in Northern Italy.
