Size: 6cm high, 4.5cm wide, 2.5cm deep – 2¼ ins high, 1¾ ins wide, 1 ins deep
A British General and politician Wellington joined the army in 1787 and was sent to India with his regiment and there defeated Tippoo Sahib. He became Governor of Mysore and broke the power of the Marathas. Knighted in 1804, he became an MP in 1806 and Irish Secretary the next year. He defeated the Danes during the Copenhagen expedition, and in the Peninsular War drove the French out of Portugal and Spain gaming victories at Talavera in 1809, Salamanca in 1812 and Toulouse in 1814. For his role in these campaigns he was given many honours and created Duke of Wellington. After Napoleon’s escape from the Island of Elba he defeated the French with the help of General Blí¼cher and his Prussian forces, at the Battle of Waterloo on 18th June 1815.
