Size: 44.5cm high, 6cm wide – 17¼ ins high, 2¼ ins wide
According to Yang Boda... ‘in the Ming Dynasty ivory hu were used by officials from the first to the fifth rank, while wooden hu for the sixth to the eighth rank’. Whereas ivory hu were kept as curiosities of the old Chinese Imperial court most wooden hu were discarded or lost and so are consequently now much harder to find.
