Size: 4cm high, 3.5cm wide, 2.5cm deep – 1½ ins high, 1¼ ins wide, 1 ins deep
Small lifelike carvings were a common subject of Western Alaskan ivory carvers as they had previously been for the prehistoric Dorset carvers in the eastern Arctic. Both cultures took pleasure in making carvings with hidden surprises or visual puns such as this curious piece.
