Mid 17th Century
Size: 18cm high, 20cm deep, 14cm wide – 7 ins high, 8 ins deep, 5½ ins wide
St Ambrose (340 – 397 AD) wrote that ‘Death is a witness to life’. Thus the irrevocability of mortality and the transience of life reflect the everlasting soul. The skull acts as a dark mirror of eternity: What I am, so you will be.
