Comprising drawing instruments in ivory, brass and steel. A variety of original compasses with points and extensions, a sector, rulers and ruling pens, all of which are contained in specially shaped hollows within the fine shagreen and silver case
Circa 1780 – 1800
Size: 17cm high, 8cm wide, 3.5cm deep – 6¾ ins high, 3 ins wide, 1½ ins deep
Known up to the end of the 18th century as ‘mathematical’ instruments these implements were used in various activities and especially in drawing. The quality of the instruments intended for personal use would reflect the social and economic status of the client and so were made with great care and attention to detail.
