African Colonial Rare Snake Wood and Ivory Gentleman's Walking Cane

An African Colonial Rare Snake Wood and Ivory Gentleman's Walking Cane
Mid 19th Century
Size: 91cm long – 35¾ ins long
Prior to the 1st World War a walking stick was an essential part of the well dressed gentleman's wardrobe and had been for at least 300 years. Today walking sticks are no longer used as an elegant accessory to fashionable dress, they are primarily regarded as orthopedic aids. A use not suited to a finely crafted cane that was never intended to be leaned on, but to be postured and posed with.
