In the Solomon Islands the bonito, a predatory fish related to the tuna is an important source of food. The presence of a shoal is indicated by sea birds which follow the small fish on which the bonito feed. The bonito are caught with un-baited spinning hooks that are towed behind canoes, as the bonito mistake these shell hooks for small fish.
