Ceremonial objects had to be activated to convey their symbolic
associations. The lighter the object the easier it was to handle to
invoke the spirits and space of the beyond. Roaches and hair ornaments
were light enough to the born by the wind when worn. Dyed deer hair
head dresses were transformed and animated by dancers who wore them.
