A Collection of Three Native American Artefacts collected in Wisconsin in the 1870’s :
A Native American, Wisconsin chert arrow head inscribed to the reverse of an old Chicago St P,M & O Railway luggage label ‘Arrow head used by Wisconsin Indians’.
A plaited buckskin quirt or pony whip inscribed to the reverse of the visiting card of G B Robinson, Sheriff, Monro Co. Wis. ‘An Indian pony whip lash – Indian name ‘char-chit-a-rah’. Whip handle consists of a small straight stick about 18 inches long’. George B Robinson was Sheriff of Monroe County from 1873-1875.
A Native American shaman’s shell gorget, an old label inscribed ‘wah-kis-a-rah or skull moon’ and to the reverse ‘A Shute’.
Circa 1850-60
Size : 7.5 cm long – 3 ins long (arrow head)
30.5 cm long – 12 ins long (pony whip)
6 cm dia. – 2¼ ins dia. (shell gorget)
