A fine gilt copper elephant Chanfron from the Maharajah of Mysore's Durbar livery.

These processional headdresses were used on ceremonial occasions to cover the elephants head and trunk in a glittering display of Royal power by the Maharajah's of Southern India. The elephant is a Royal mount and symbol of wisdom, power and longevity.
