'I also enclose a stone labourers found on my land. It is known as a 'crown stone' and is a curio. I think it may be a foscilised fruit or some ancient chestnut'

Commonly found in the chalk and limestone of western Europe, flint and chert are opaque chalcedony, usually dull grey to grey black in colour which break with a pronounced conchoidal fracture giving sharp edges, a property that was exploited by pre-historic man in making flint axes and other implements. Flint frequently contains fossils.
