A very similar headrest is in the National Museum of Natural History , Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. and was collected by William Harvey 'curio' Brown in 1893 in Chief Mushayamombe's area of the central Shona lands , Zimbabwe .
Another bearing distinct similarities to this example was photographed by the Frobenius expedition in 1928 . It shows a Nohwe Shona man sleeping on his side using it for it's intended purpose .
