A Fine Indian Bhuj, a damascened steel battle axe from Lahore
Size : 62 cm long
24½ ins long
Decorated with a gilded elephants head at the base of the short heavy forward curved blade, the hilt of the Bhuj unscrews at the point and contains a small dagger. The steel tube hafted to the blade is decorated in silver and gold with finely engraved designs.
Bhuj are essentially battle axes that were widely used in India from the earliest times of Aboriginal tribesmen and later by the Hindu and Muslim armies.
