The Eskimo relied for their subsistence almost entirely upon the sea, with most of their hunting directed towards seal and walrus and with less effort expended on whales and narwhals.
Made of walrus ivory and decorated to symbolise the image of three turning seal's heads, the engraved lines with large circles and ovals combine to produce a graceful flowing curvilinear object of primitive art.
