This wrist guard is decorated with the characteristic linear designs that relate to the artefacts found in the Punuk Islands at the site known as the 'Okvik' site. Okvik means 'the place where walrus come on land'.
It is not known what impulse led to the decoration of the Old Bering Sea objects that have been found. They constitute one of the most impressive bodies of art produced by the prehistoric people of the Eskimo world.
