A Good Queensland Australian Aboriginal Carved and Incised ‘Mulga’ Wood
( Acacia Aneura ) Boomerang
With an interesting Australian rose gold mount hallmarked ‘W.Kerr, 9ct’
The inscription on the shield shaped mount reading :
‘To Alfredo with all good wishes from Hugh. D. McIntosh, Australia October 23rd
1915’
Late 19th Century – Early 20th Century
Size : 81 cm wide – 32 ins wide
This boomerang is a fighting, non returning weapon finely decorated with the makers totemic designs. Most aboriginal boomerangs did not come back, they were made for hunting and fighting and were thrown to hit their targets, to seriously injure, maim or kill, and not to return.
Hugh Donald Mcintosh 1876-1942 was an Australian artist of some repute. In 1913 he took 32 artists and entertainers from San Francisco back to Australia and showed them and their work at the Tivoli Theatre in Sydney.
