Folk art has been recognised as an American artistic tradition for over 80 years and in that time has come to represent the American experience and spirit. The artists were the social historians, and the unacknowledged documenters, of a way of life that should not go unrecorded or become forgotten. Objects such as this exemplify the importance of the art of the everyday in America.
