A Moche , Pre Columbian Peruvian Blackware vessel

A Moche , Pre Columbian Peruvian Blackware vessel with stirrup ring spout
Circa 200 – 800 A.D
Size : 21 cm high , 14 cm dia. – 8¼ ins high , 5½ ins dia.
Pottery was the chief means of expression of all early Peruvians and stirrup ring spout vessels were typical of all the vessels made on the northern coast of Peru . The Moche artists were particularly fond of using plants as motifs for their pottery decoration . More than half the agricultural products used in the world today were cultivated by the Inca's at the time of the conquest including maize , now the second most important food crop in the world , and potatoes , tomatoes , cocoa , chilli peppers , tobacco and many more . This vessel is modelled with two humming birds pecking at the tendrils of what looks to be a tomato plant .
