Literature

Nautiloids are primitive marine cephalopds that possess a shell. They were most abundant in the Palaeozoic era, but today only a single genus survives in the South West Pacific Ocean. they swim by squirting water out of their body cavity . This cyrtoceras would have floated on the surface of the sea with its head down.
This fossil has a label to the underside marked 'Butler Brompton Road London' stating that it was found near Hythe in Kent
