19 th Century

Size : 5 cm long – 2ins long
Made by a shaman , small amulets or charms such as this example depicting a fox are worn or carried by hunters who believe that the amulets have the power to hear the clicking of walking caribou , or to see swimming geese and roaming polar bears that are far away . The amulets lead hunters to the animals and guide their arrows , lances and harpoons .
